Message from the President

It is a great pleasure for me to present the European Society of Temporomandibular Joint Surgeons (ESTMJS).

Founded in Rome in 2009, ESTMJS brings together recognised experts in temporomandibular joint surgery from across Europe, promoting scientific exchange, collaboration and the sharing of clinical experience, and contributing to the advancement of knowledge and surgical practice in this complex and continuously evolving field.

We believe that TMJ surgery, when appropriately indicated, has an important role within the multidisciplinary management of temporomandibular pathology and should not be regarded simply as a treatment of last resort.

Our ambition is for ESTMJS to remain the reference point for high-level expertise in TMJ surgery. High-quality clinical research, multicentre collaboration, education, and the development of evidence-based recommendations are central to this mission. Our scientific work should provide meaningful guidance for clinical practice and ultimately translate into better, safer and more patient centred care.

Looking ahead, I see ESTMJS strengthening its European identity, expanding its international connections, and promoting innovation and new perspectives in TMJ surgery, thereby helping to shape the future of TMJ surgery.

I warmly invite you to explore our website and discover more about the Society’s activities, research initiatives, and upcoming events.
